Unauthorized intervention at the Monument to the Flags in São Paulo. Also known as “Empurra-Empurra,” it was sculpted in granite by Victor Brecheret and unveiled in 1954.
I built an old ship’s anchor and installed the object, in broad daylight, on the modernist monument that represents the development of São Paulo.
Even without approval from city hall, the Anchor remained in place for three weeks. During an attempt to remove it, I was ironically stopped by the police, who claimed to be defending the city’s historical heritage.
