Hundreds of trees are cut down every year in the city of São Paulo for the wrong reasons. It is a great loss for society and for the environmental balance.
The “Fallen Tree” installation in Ibirapuera Park consisted of replanting a gigantic eucalyptus tree—weighing 10 metric tons and standing 20 meters tall—upside down, defying the laws of nature just as we do with our city’s landscape. This tree, like so many others in the metropolis, fell during this year’s heavy summer rains, but it was given a new lease on life through this urban intervention and its significance.
Art can be brutal and poetic, imposing and delicate. Art transforms reality and reconnects humanity with nature.
